Gaining an Audience

Whether you are using a blog or a wiki, the addition of an audience, or following, is vital to its existance.

"A wiki in the hands of a healthy community works. A wiki in the hands of an indifferent community fails" Clay Shirky

The key is to engage your audience from the beginning. The participants need to be able to see it's value.
"A wiki will generally have little difficulty remaining stable-assuming that people see value in its existence." Brian Lamb

The Wiki Prayer
"Please, grant me the serenity to accept the pages I cannot edit, The courage to edit the pages I can, And the wisdom to know the difference."

"Easton Ellsworth: Here’s how I would approach it. I would read all I could about my blog topic - especially other related blogs. Then I would write ten or twenty posts and launch the blog with most of those posts published immediately and a few prescheduled to cover the next few days at least. Then I would tell everyone I knew about my new blog and ask them to tell everyone they knew about it. And then I would also tell all the bloggers I could find in that niche about it, and even all the local press and related businesses that I could. Finally, I would continue to post consistently to the blog while building friendships and trust with established bloggers in that niche and engaging my visitors in conversation as much as possible. Sounds like a lot, but once you get the ball rolling, it starts to roll itself more and more - given that your blog is actually worth visiting and reading, that is!" from Bolder Blogs.
