Wikis are different from blogging software
Wiki is Hawaiian for "quick".

Wiki concept
There is generally no review before page modifications are accepted.

Many wikis do not require registration of user accounts.

Private wikis require user authentication to edit, and even read, pages to avoid abuse of the system.

Some wikis keep a record of changes made to wiki pages, often every version of the page is stored
Wikis offer a search function, whether it's a title search or a full text search.

Nothing about soft-security software prevents it from being hosted behind a firewall
Many wikis tend toward plainness in design
3 common Intellectual Property schemes
SecondCopyrightImpossibilityTheorem = every copyright policy will be incompatible with at least one other copyright policy in at least one direction. This will occur even where all parties concerned desire the copyright policies to be compatible.

There is no unified set of software characteristics that are shared by all wikis
