Notes
I wanted to show an example of what I had written on the board, compared to the notes that the students took. The first image is my notes that I had on the board that I stressed NONSTOP. We would recite over and over again:
Linking verb, slanted line, Predicate adjective or Predicate nominative
Action verb, straight line, Direct object (sometimes Indirect object)

Here is an example of a student trying to diagram a sentence. She labels and draws arrows before she diagrams the sentence to ensure she is doing it right. I stressed the labeling of parts of speech before diagramming, and this student followed that advice. Some chose not too and didn't do as well on the final test.
