In literature, style is important - literature is meant to express both knowledge and beauty. But scientific writing is rarely literature - it's meant to convey knowledge.

A well written paper will be able to make an argument that a poorly written paper won't. To quote Duke Ellington, "If it sounds good, it is good," so let your ear by your guide when you write.
