You've gotta do usability testing months and months before your site is launched
Focus groups are not usability tests
Focus groups are for learning about peoples opinions and reactions to products
- Usability tests are for watching people first-hand try to use a website and see what goes wrong or right
- Focus groups not good for learning if your site works and is usable

Usability testing
- Test at least 1 user
- Test sooner rather than later in the project
- DIY testing (on-site, fewer people, one test a month, continual testing, smaller price)

Typical user problems
- Too much going on
- Unclear about the concept of the site
- Key words are not found

Fix the big problems first
Ignore little problems or users who want new features
Create a list
Try tweaking problems instead of completely remodeling them
Don't add things
