Grown, Ungrown

Trauma. For 12 years America has "grown" and "ungrown" with quiet war: silently moving onward, only speaking with body bags. Young America has grown with Trauma, knows it intimately, walks with Trauma in its schools, in its churches, in the halls of its homes. Though the war in Iraq is over, the war in Afghanistan remains. It is possible to forget that it is happening, that the war still continues, and then Trauma reminds you with a news report of a car bomb or a drone strike and it is all fresh again. Trauma restores its place in the mind.
