Bar 209 in downtown Bemidji makes an ideal location for a quick get-together during happy hour, with 2 for 1 drinks and half price appetizers. New owners took over in early 2011, and they are often found behind the bar full of energy. "People helping people" is their mantra.

Atmosphere

Bar 209's curb appeal is a little shabby but the refinished hardwood floors and bar will quickly change your mind. The bar space is cramped leaving little room for seating and walking. Be prepared to wait for a table to clear during peak hours. There is a back room featuring one pub table, a pool table, and a televsion which is ideal for small gatherings. Neon beer signs and flatscreen televisions tuned to ESPN channel create 209's vibe.
During the week, Bar 209 is more of a restaurant but on the weekends the place is all bar. The music and dresses are hiked up as the place transforms into more of a club scene. The packed space presents an excellent opportunity to meet new people. On occasion, Bar 209 features live music that is announced on their Facebook page.

Drink

Bar 209 has 20 beers on tap, including Guinness, Summit, Finnegans, Premium Grain Belt, Blue Moon, Sam Adams, Fat Tire, New Castle and Honey Weiss. The wide range of standard tap beers and cocktails are 2 for 1 during happy hour. Split the 2 for 1 with a friend for wallet-friendly value. They also do a shot of the week for $3, such as their Jolly Rancher shot.

Food

The menu changed with new ownership and unfortunately the menu available at http://www.bemidjimenus.com/dining/bar209.html is no longer accurate. Take-out and catering is offered but they have yet to make a to-go menu available. All appetizers are half price during happy hour from 4:00-6:00 and 8:00-10:00 every day. Portions offered are generous, the quesadilla's are a full meal themselves. Bar 209 has a sandwich of the day posted on their Facebook page. The bar features their 209 Burger Challenge, give them a 24 hour notice and they will prepare a 2 lb. 9 oz. burger with 8 pieces of bacon, 6 slices of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and bun with a 1 lb. side of waffle fries, if you can eat it all in 29 minutes you win $209.
