Subject

The majority of HiddenPeanut's posts tend to revolve around simple aspects of his daily life. There are several posts about gmail, as well as trips to the beach and weather. He tells us about his time in his office, the birds outside his house, and things he's eating (like pb&j sandwiches.) Also, about 30% of the posts are @ other people, so they are a part of a dialogue rather than a monologue. Their subjects seem to be in reference to what others are saying.

Exigence

Some exigence stems from the audience as when the rhetor uses @messages. Other reasons for speaking seem to come from external sources like events in the rhetor's daily life. "was a cold cloudy day at the beach, so I went outlet shopping. Did get my run in before the clouds appeared!" Overall, we don't get an exceptionally clear picture of exigence based just on the messages here. It's difficult for me to discern their purpose.

Occasion

There is definitely a lot of kairos going on here. Most of the posts seem to occur as events happen. The rhetor is responding directly and immediately to these events. In the case of @ messages, I would generally say that another twitterer has created the occasion for speaking and HiddenPeanuts is making his style appropriate to their messages, prepon.

Forum

HiddenPeanuts posts from his computer, either at home, or at the office. We can't say for certain where all the updates come from, but by there content it seems like the rhetor updates mainly from a home computer. Some events are spoken of in past tense, Particularly the trips to the beach where carrying a computer and finding wireless internet would be a hassle. We know that the rhetor is not making mobile updates.

Audience

HiddenPeanuts has a relatively large audience wit 77 followers. Judging by the high number of @ messages, he knows at least a few of them if not personally, then he is acquainted with their electronic personas. The connotation of the messages tends to indicate a peer relationship rather than one of say, professor and student. HiddenPeanuts tends to ask for advice from others, sympathize with their posts, and even congratulates one user on their birthday.

Self

It's hard for me to comment on someone else's self. These messages in particular don't give a very clear picture of HP's self in reference to the rhetorical situation. While I can say that I get the impression they are some sort of student or young professional who is up on electronic media and watches television and goes to the beach, I'm not sure what rhetorical significance it has, if any.

Medium

The medium here is twitter. It limits posts to 140 characters so ideas expressed have to be fairly universal and easy to understand, or the audience has to have knowledge of any discipline specific terms and language used. There isn't much room for explanation. This medium is particularly suited to brief, dialogic intercourse within a larger group of messages. This is also a public dialogue. There are opportunities for monologue to become dialogue as other users read and comment on posts originally meant to be simple declarations by the rhetor.
