Isocolon twice used. In the tweet, it's used to create dramatic irony. Compare, "People design for themselves." The slide in the image uses an isocolon to create zeugma or antanaclasis (pun). Compare "To change the world, change who's designing it." Now consider the relation between the two micro-texts. While it's not a figure, we might call it echo.

Style and pistis - logos: The overarching pistis served by the figure in this case is logos. The trope is making clear the reasoning that the argument is based on. Which is to point out how humor, puns, irony can serve logos.

For Tue 15 Nov

We have only a few meetings left, so we're turning to some more sophisticated consideration of ethos and pathos. On Tuesday, I'll present and have an exercise on ethos to work with in class, with a follow-up online due Friday. Michelle Thoft will present when we get back from break.

Read, Longaker, chap 8: Habit (Ethos Revisited), pp 232 - 250. Read and make notes. It is not a skimmable chapter, so give yourself time to read and ponder it. You'll be working in pairs with the concept of ethos in class on Tuesday, based on the questions on pp 248-9, and 249-50. You'll need to be prepared.
