preparing for Tuesday

In-class students: Prepare to speak briefly about what you have found concerning managing arguments in these two sires. You will have 10 - 15 minutes in class to compare notes, then I will ask you to highlight one or two points, while we view them on the sites. To get a sense of what to prepare, go back to our starting position:

In this project, we analyzed a number of web pages on two different websites to see how the rhetors manage arguments. In particular, we kept an eye on how the sites use presentational enthymemes (L&W pp 54ff), and practical reasoning overall. But, more broadly, we're here to see what we can see: What's interesting in how arguments operate or are managed in websites, and more generally in hypertext.

To draw you notes together, we'll start by characterizing the ethos of each site Some of you already have started to do this in your notes. We can see the ethos of the sites being argued in almost every element - right down to how the primary claim of each site is stated and presented:
BSU: Best decision ever!
SCSU: Think. Do. Make a difference. Update: The cap now seems to be Education for Life.

Keep this in mind for Tuesday: Ethos.
