Description of the landing page

College of Health Sciences & Human Ecology

Taking a look at the page as soon as it is opened, I notice the banner. The banner consists of a changing pictures after each refresh of the page. The only other picture presented on the page is one of a middle aged women that I assume is Dr. Patricia Rogers but I do not know that for sure to be true. I am lead to believe this due to the names linked below the picture.

Above the banner are links to the BSU homepage, along with ones to, Students, Faculty/Staff, myBSU, Search, Directory, and Contact. Slight below those links are another set of links that include, Home, Academics, Colleges, and College of Health Sciences & Human Ecology. The Bemidji State logo is a link to the BSU hope page. In the right hand margin are a list of link. These are links to Departments and programs Criminal Justice, Nursing, Physical Education, Health & Sport, Professional Education, Psychology, and Social Work. Right below are another set of links to the Integrative Programs. These includes, Honors Program, Humanities, Indian Studies, International Studies, Liberal Studies, Pre-Professional Studies, Religious Studies, Science Program, Social Studies, and Women's Studies. In the left hand margin are a few more thinks. On is to Dr. Patricia Rogers. Below the contact information in the left hand margin is a link to the schools and colleges at Bemidji State University. Under that link is one that allows to you to give to the College of Health Sciences Human Ecology.

At the bottom of the page are a variety of links with headings. these include, Admissions, Academics, Campus Life, Offices, Alumni & Foundation, News & Info. Below all of those links are two more links. There is a link to the homepage one again and another to Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. And finally below all of those are links that include the Privacy statement, accessibility and Terms of use.

I found that a couple items were not included on this page. One would be embedded links. There area variety of links surrounding the tests but not in the text. The images are not links. There are only two images on the whole page. There are no adds displayed on this page. The heading above the minor and major categories are not defined in bold, italics, or a bigger font.

Taking look at the visual design of the page my initial reaction what that it was simple. There is grey writing on the white background, which is fairly easy to read. The headings are bolded. The majority of the links are highlighted in red. Looking to the right side bar the headings “Departments and Programs,” “Integrative Programs,” and “Graduate Studies,” are boxed in turquoise and the writing is displayed in white. The common colors used on this page are white, grey, turquoise and some red. There are a few different logos, two for Bemidji Sate, and another for Minnesota colleges and Universities. The Bemidji State University logo at the top of the page is a link to the home page. The others are not links themselves but do have text links to the right of the logo.

Description of Context

In the College of Health Sciences & Human Ecology landing page I noticed the were lengthy and contained a lot of information. In a couple of the paragraphs they used a journalistic style of writing by making a single sentence a paragraph. Sentence variation was not used effectively. Instead the text was filled with complex sentences. That is not to say that they were all complex sentences but the majority were. There are two heading for the duration of the context. They used line spacing that made it easy to fallow the context easily. They used grey text on a white background, which made it very legible and easy to read. The font used was a 12 pt. font. The paragraphs are indented and are also set apart by an extra space. Bullets are used to list the links of majors and minors. These links are also defined in red to make them stand out.

In the College of Business, Technology, and Communication, landing page I noticed a few differences from the previous. On major difference was that there were embedded links in the text that were underlined and highlighted in red. This differs from the precious page because they were listed instead of embedded. This landing page also used a lot of bullets but not for links. The bullets were used for the contents included in each of the program. The program is listed as a link but the contents with in are not linked. At the bottom of the program listings are the minors in this school. The minors are bulleted and linked. There are three major headings that are bolded in grey throughout the body of the text. The heading are attention grabbing. The color scheme is that same as the previous landing page. The links are also highlighted in red. This page also uses indents and extra spacing to separate the paragraph breaks. Many of these sentences, again are complex.

In the College of Arts & Sciences, landing page the first element that caught my eye was the amount of headings. Unlike the other two this page had five headings. This page was missing the bullets and links at the bottom of the body texts. This page has embedded links, again highlighted in red and underlined. The paragraphs are separated with a space and an indent. Although the lead paragraph under each heading is mot indented and presented in bock form. The headings are bolded in grey.
